Treks & Activities Event

Bus trip visiting the RAAF Aviation Heritage Centre at Amberley followed by The Workshops Rail Museum at North Ipswich.



Transport: A day to discover some of our past history by Coach.


Cost $75.00 Members, $80.00 Non Members includes coach fare, admission to both venues and lunch. Bring your own hot water and cup for morning tea otherwise provided.


For both venues visited during this activity, it can be assumed that measures for Covid-19 restrictions may still be in place; such as QR codes, declaration forms, etc.

Coach Pick Up & Return Location:

North Side 8.00 AM Sharp. Bus Stop 27, Park Road, Eagle Junction.(Clayfield)

South Side 8:40 AM Sharp. Brittain Park, near 172 Troughton Road, Coopers Plains.

These are boarding times, so please be there beforehand.

We will visit the RAAF Aviation Heritage Centre in the morning.

After arrival and ID security checks at Amberley, you will be met and escorted to the Heritage Centre where a self-catered morning tea will take place at a Covered Outdoor Meal Area. At the Centre are four hangars full of aircraft, and aviation memorabilia. You will be blown away by the large number of restored aircraft including a Canberra Bomber, Sabre and Mirage fighter jets, an F111, and various helicopters to name a few; some still capable of flying. Volunteers will be available to tell you about the displays and answer your questions. There is also a Gift Shop and all proceeds support development and maintenance of displays.


At Amberley, visitors aged 16 years and over must produce current unexpired photographic ID issued by a State or Commonwealth authority. Examples of the types of acceptable photo ID are: Australian Drivers Licence, Proof of Age Card, Companion Card, AusPost Digital Identification and Secondary Student ID Card with photo for those under 18. For visitors under 16 years of age only full name and age is required.

Other conditions are: No Photography allowed on Base except whilst in the Heritage Centre precinct. Vehicles may be subject to random searches. Pets strictly prohibited and Smoking not permitted.



From Amberley we will depart for The Workshops Rail Museum at North Ipswich entering by  the historic Timekeepers Building. After checking in we will have lunch at the Trackside Cafe, being tea, coffee, roast meat and vegetables and apple crumble dessert.


You are then free to wander around at leisure at the many displays including but not limited to railway rolling stock, locos, videos and a model railway. External to the main building you can take short walks to view the Timekeepers Grounds, historic Power House, and War Memorial.


Finally reboard the bus at 3.30pm for home.

Dress: Most items of interest are indoors; but not all.

Opportunities to sit down might be limited while viewing exhibits.

As you will be on your feet for a significant time, you should have comfortable

footwear for walking on hard surfaces, hat when outdoors, warm jacket,

maybe rain coat.


Bring: Small bag or back pack. For Morning tea: Flask of hot water, cup, and spoon. (Tea bags, Coffee, milk, sugar, paper plates, individually wrapped Arnott’s biscuits, and serviettes will be provided). Also your own drinking water for the day.

Numbers limited to 20 so please register early to avoid disappointment.Do not forget to add your first and family names, ID number, ID type, and Issued by Who when registering. Also advise at which pick up point you will board the coach and any special dietary requirement such as vegetarian, lactose and/or gluten free.

Please register and pay on line by the fixed deadline of 8 June 2021.You must arrive with your Photo ID identical to what you quote when registering or you will not be permitted to enter and will hold up the whole group.
