The correct answer is E. Approximately 83% of Bangladeshis are Muslim. Upon independence in 1947, British-ruled India was divided along religious lines. Areas containing a Muslim-majority became Pakistan – divided into East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) and West Pakistan (now Pakistan). The Partition, as it was called, resulted in much bloodshed and large-scale transfers of population as Muslims moved to Pakistan and what is now Bangladesh, and Hindus moved to India.
36.6% of intermediate students got this answer right.
