Because of the association Matthew Flinders and his team have with the geography, history, science and literature of Australia, records linked with his circumnavigation of Australia in the Investigator in 1801-1803 provide useful reference material at a number of levels within the curriculum. For example, records of the botanist and gardener on board provide an interesting introduction to a unit on changing environments in Level 5 or 6 SOSE. Matthew Flinders' letters to public and private figures allow for style comparisons.

Please note: The Core Learning Outcomes used are those available at time of writing. Some have been revised later in 2002 and activities may require some adapting. The English Syllabus outcomes were not available at time of writing but many of the resources available on this website would be valuable in the Cultural and Critical Strands.
