Community activities

Communities around Queensland commemorated the Bicentenary. The calendar gives details of a few. Activities included: in Brisbane Men of the Trees conducted special tree planting activities Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens had volunteer-led garden walks Ipswich City Council planted Flindersia gardens on Arbor Day Gladstone held a Flinders Festival with special events for the bicentenary, including a sailing regatta on the Harbour the Capricorn Cost Historical Society organised a trip to Curtis Island Stanage Township Organisation hosted a commemorative service and walk to top of Pier Head Rockhampton yachties re-enacted Flinders' visit to the Percy Isles Sweers Island Resort organised a day for the local island communities to meet with Paul Brunton and view some of the exhibits from the travelling exhibition.
